Career Outcomes
Many RMIS members have discovered fulfilling and successful careers in insurance companies and traditional risk management roles. Below are just a couple of the stories of those who have proudly called themselves RMISers.
Dan Kaiser, CPCU, ARM, MBA, JD
Senior VP Innovation and Development, CUNA Mutual Group
Dan Kaiser has been consistently promoted to progressively higher executive levels at CUNA Mutual Group over 24+ years. His experience includes executive leadership, strategy development, innovation, design thinking, product management, sales management, marketing, legal and project management. As Senior Vice President, Product Executive, he led a growing $850M+ insurance, regulatory and technology business. More recently he was promoted to Senior Vice President Innovation and Development to launch an entirely new business division.
Dan is also a seasoned adjunct professor at the UW-Madison Graduate School of Business and an instructor of executive education at the Fluno Center in Madison WI. His areas of expertise in teaching include strategy, enterprise risk management, insurance, general management and leadership.
He has been a frequent speaker at national and international events including the Houses of Parliament in London and major conferences in Canada, Australia, France and across the US. He has authored articles in both business and legal journals. He has actively served on several boards including large financial institutions, an Emergency Medical Service, a large retirement community and university boards of advisors.
He has extensive volunteer activities including Habitat for Humanity, the United Way, Hospice and the West Side Coalition for the Aging and Meals on Wheels. In addition, he has delivered pro bono legal services to people in need in the local community as well as business consulting to regional businesses and government agencies. Dan is also the founder and "chief farmer" of Helping Harvest Farms Inc., a charitable organization with the mission of growing organic produce for people in need in Wisconsin.

Andy Nottestad, MBA
Director - Corporate Insurance, United Continental Holdings
Airlines face huge risks due to myriad reasons. Recently, a number of airlines experienced power outages that not only delayed flights but also demonstrated their vulnerabilities to possible cyberattacks, thus emphasizing the need for thorough insurance coverage and seamless risk management.
As director of corporate insurance for the corporation that operates United Airlines, Andy Nottestad leads a group of insurance managers and claims professionals in managing the company’s global insurable risks by performing risk assessments and mitigation, and arranging risk financing through traditional and alternative techniques. An alumnus of UW-Madison, Nottestad regularly visits his alma mater to speak to students of the risk management and insurance program and RMIS, sharing his industry knowledge and career insights.
Prior to joining United, Andy served as Senior Treasury Manager of Insurance & RM at PepsiCo where he lead the insurance and risk financing function for PepsiCo's US Casualty and Global Financial and Executive Risk Programs. While with PepsiCo, Andy also worked to integrate or spin off numerous multiple billion dollar operations risk financing programs, as well as integrate Quaker Tropicana and Gatorade operational risk management programs into PepsiCo's programs.
Andy completed his MBA at the University of Minnesota's Carlson School of Management. As a member of Insurance Business magazine's 2017 Leading Risk Managers, Andy is recognized as one of the top 70 risk management professionals charged with "protecting the integrity of [one] of the world’s most recognizable brands."

Julia Aasberg, CPCU, MS
Global Head of Offshore Energy, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty
Julia Aasberg is the Global Head of Offshore Energy at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. Headquartered in London, Julie's responsibilities at Allianz include portfolio development, as well as underwriting and expansion of the product line for international clients involved in the offshore and upstream oil and gas industry.
Julia began her insurance career as an energy underwriter in 1981 with the American International Group’s Offshore Division in Houston, Texas. She subsequently joined Storebrand's energy operation in New York City as an underwriter in 1985 and in 1988 transferred to the Energy Division at Storebrand's head office in Oslo, Norway. Her underwriting career at Storebrand in Oslo and at its successor company, Gard Services, spanned 14 years and culminated in the position of vice president and senior underwriter.
Next, Julia joined Aon's Energy Division in London as an executive director and regional manager. Her responsibilities included business development, client relationship management. and oversight of the quality management system.
Julia earned her BBA and MS in Risk Management and Insurance from the Wisconsin School of Business. She also earned a degree in marine insurance from the College of Insurance in New York (1985) and her Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation (CPCU 1998).
